Dubrovnik City Walls: plan the loop, heat and Lovrijenac together

The Dubrovnik City Walls are a ticketed heritage visit with an exposed walking route. The official FAQ says a reservation is not required, but tickets can be bought in advance through the Society of Friends of Dubrovnik Antiquities’ webshop. An online ticket is tied to the selected location and date and must be saved on a phone or printed and activated at the entrance.

The City Walls ticket also permits a visit to Fort Lovrjenac according to the official FAQ. A ticket bought at Lovrjenac alone does not automatically include the walls; the FAQ says an extra payment is due at the walls entrance. Decide whether you want both sites before buying so the order and walking time are clear.

Choose a tolerable time of day#

The walls are high, open to sun and reached through historic steps. Use the official working-hours page for the date, enter before the stated last entry and leave enough time for the full circuit. The Society says its heritage sites are open every day except Christmas Day and that the end of working hours is also the last entry time. Hours outside the winter period can vary, so do not copy a time from an old guide.

Go early or late when the forecast and opening hours suit the group, carry water and use shade where the route allows. Heat changes the time needed for steps, pauses and photographs. If anyone has reduced mobility, read the official FAQ’s accessibility warning before buying: the Society says these heritage sites are difficult to access for people with disabilities.

Keep the heritage route safe#

The Society’s conduct rules prohibit damaging the walls, jumping, climbing or leaning over them, and throwing rubbish into the sea or on the walls. Keep children under adult supervision, keep dogs on a leash and stop at a wide point when the group needs to regroup. Commercial photography requires the Society’s approval; private phone photography is allowed under the FAQ.

Save the ticket confirmation and check the selected site before leaving accommodation. Do not assume organised transport connects the Society’s heritage sites: the FAQ says there is none. Carry small packaging until you reach an appropriate bin.
