Serengeti safari planning: the region matters more than the animal list

Choose the region before the sightings#

Seronera, the western corridors, the northern areas and the southern plains have different road networks and seasonal patterns. Ask the operator where each night is spent and how long the dirt-road transfers take. A line on a map is not an ordinary road estimate, and a route that crosses several regions can trade wildlife time for transit. Weather and migration movement may change the usable roads and where animals are distributed.

TANAPA’s tariff rules define a conservation-fee period. Confirm when that period starts for your entry and whether the accommodation or concession adds its own charge. Keep the permit, reservation and operator contact offline. Gate timing, check-in and ranger instructions control the day; do not extend a drive beyond the permitted window for a hoped-for sighting.

Stay in the vehicle unless the guide identifies an authorized place to get out. Keep food and waste secured, maintain the required distance from wildlife and never encourage an animal to approach. Sightings are variable, so judge the itinerary by its region, road time and guide plan rather than a guaranteed species list.
