Cinque Terre: use the Train Card around Via dell’Amore’s slot

Via dell’Amore is a managed path inside Cinque Terre National Park, while the Train Card is a transport-and-trail product. The official Train Card page lists access to park trails, local buses, station restrooms and regional second-class trains in Cinque Terre. It also says the card is valid until 24:00 on the selected date. Check the current tariff band and any exclusions before buying.

Via dell’Amore requires its own reservation. The park’s English visitor instructions specify a 30-minute slot, entry at Riomaggiore and a one-way exit at Manarola. Groups are capped at 30 people; individual visitors must enter only in the reserved slot. A Train Card can help you reach the villages, but it does not turn an unreserved arrival into admission.

Build the day around the fixed direction#

Put the Via dell’Amore slot on the calendar before choosing the rest of the villages. Allow time to reach Riomaggiore station, find the correct entrance and walk from Manarola to the next train. Do not schedule a same-minute connection at the exit: the reservation controls entry, not your onward train.

If the path matters less than village-hopping, use the Train Card for trains and local buses and choose an open trail from the park’s current trail information. The Train Card page currently flags a temporary closure at Servano on the Monterosso–Vernazza route while keeping access via Via Corone. This is a precise status notice for that section, not a promise that every path is open.

Keep cliffs and crowding in the same plan#

Via dell’Amore and the village stations compress people into narrow walking spaces. Keep moving at the pace of the group, stop only where the path widens and follow staff directions. Wear shoes suitable for steps and wet stone, and check the park’s weather and trail notices before departure. A reservation cannot make a rough sea, rain or a closed trail safe.

Carry water and take packaging back to a bin or your accommodation if a station bin is full. Do not step over railings, touch walls or leave food for wildlife.
