Machu Picchu in 2026: buy the circuit you can actually use

Plan Machu Picchu around Peru’s official TuBoleto platform, circuit and route choice, entry time, in-person allocation and Aguas Calientes logistics.

For Machu Picchu, the ticket controls the itinerary. Peru’s Ministry of Culture sells entry to the llaqta through the official TuBoleto platform at tuboleto.cultura.pe/llaqta_machupicchu. The booking flow asks you to select the circuit, route, date, entry time and visitor origin. Buy that combination first; plan the train, hotel, bus and guide around the confirmation.

Choose the circuit before choosing transport

The Cusco Culture Directorate describes three visitor circuits grouped into ten routes. The available route, season and time slot are part of the ticket product. A ticket for one circuit does not entitle you to switch to another at the gate, and an entry time that conflicts with a train is still the visitor’s scheduling problem. Save the official confirmation with the passport details used for the purchase and check every name before travel.

The 2026 sales announcement covers both the Inka Trail network and the Machupicchu llaqta. They are related products with separate availability. If your plan includes an Inka Trail permit, check that product’s date and requirements in the same official process rather than assuming a llaqta ticket includes the trek.

Treat the in-person option as limited availability

The official Machupicchu ticket site describes a limited daily in-person allocation at the DDC office in Machupicchu Pueblo. The purchase is personal, availability is real-time and the entry permission is tied to the date and circuit offered. This can help a visitor already in Aguas Calientes, but it is a weak foundation for a flight, train or non-refundable tour booked around one preferred slot.

Use the official availability display and the current in-person notice when the online calendar is full. Do not pay an informal agency that cannot show the official circuit, route, date and time attached to your name. A message promising “Machu Picchu” without those fields is not a usable itinerary.

Keep transport flexible around the entry window. A bus queue, train delay or long transfer from Cusco can make a narrow slot impossible even when the ticket is valid. Leave time to reach Machupicchu Pueblo, confirm the correct bus or walking connection and arrive at the llaqta entrance within the time printed on the ticket.

This guide was checked against Peru’s Ministry of Culture and Cusco Culture Directorate pages on 5 September 2026. Availability, circuits, entry windows and in-person procedures are operational; confirm them again before paying for connected transport.
