Pena Palace: the palace time slot does not reserve your hill transfer

Plan Pena Palace around the timed interior entry, park entrance, uphill transfer, private-car restriction and Bus 434.

At Pena Palace, the time printed on the ticket is part of a longer hill arrival. Parques de Sintra lists park hours of 09:00–19:00 and palace hours of 09:30–18:30, with last entries before closing. The palace uses timed entry, and late arrival may be refused (Pena Palace ticket information).

Private traffic is prohibited on the access roads to Pena Palace and the Moorish Castle. Bus 434 connects Sintra station with the hill attractions, while official planning information also describes walking routes such as Santa Maria, Seteais and Villa Sassetti. The park entrance is below the palace; Parques de Sintra advises allowing about 30 minutes to reach the palace itself (visit planning; official FAQ).

Protect the timed slot

Check the ticket type and whether your time refers to palace entry before leaving Sintra. Leave a margin for the bus queue, uphill transfer, park entrance and palace queue. If the group cannot manage the walk from the park entrance, choose the permitted transport shown by the current operator information rather than assuming a private car can drop you at the gate.

The hill is uneven and can be exposed to sun, wind or rain. Wear shoes for stone paths, carry water and keep the group together through narrow areas. A palace reservation does not override a closure, and a bus estimate is not a guaranteed arrival time. Recheck ticket inventory, operating hours and route notices on the official pages on the day.
