Petra: the Treasury is the start of the walking plan

Petra’s Treasury is an early landmark, not the end of the visit. Jordan’s official opening information lists 06:00–16:00 in winter and 06:00–18:00 in summer, with ticket sales ending before closing and visitors evacuated at sunset. Plan beyond the Siq#

The route through the Siq reaches the Treasury, but the site continues over uneven ground and stairs toward places such as Ad Deir, the Monastery. Choose the farthest point the group can reach and return in the available light, rather than adding the Monastery after the group is already hot. The standalone ticket and Jordan Pass are different purchase routes with their own eligibility and validity terms; check the official ticket portal before paying (PDTRA ticket portal).

Start with water, sun protection and shoes for stone paths. Keep the group together at junctions, use only open trails and obey security or weather closures. Flash floods can affect wadis and access even when the morning looks clear. Treat offers of animal transport carefully and ask the authority or guide for the current welfare and route rules; a visitor’s quoted price or “shortcut” is not an official instruction.

Leave margin for the return through the Siq and the walk from the last stop to the exit. Do not plan a sunset arrival and assume the gates will stay open for a final photograph. Recheck the current hours, ticket conditions and trail notices on the official pages immediately before the visit.
