Teide: a cable-car ticket is not a Pico del Teide summit permit

Teide has two different experiences at altitude: cable-car sightseeing and the Telesforo Bravo route from La Rambleta to the summit. Access to that summit section requires the official permit; a cable-car ticket does not grant crater-trail access (official Teide permit; summit-trail regulations).

The published regulation limits a person to one two-hour access period per day and one permit per week, with stated exceptions after prolonged closure. Check the current reservation wording and the permit time before travelling. A booked cable-car ride can still be cancelled by wind, ice or another operational decision; the operator’s live notice controls the ascent (cable-car operator).

Plan for altitude, not just the view#

Teide’s height changes the effort and weather compared with the coast. Carry warm layers, water and food, and use the official staff guidance if someone develops altitude symptoms. Wind, cloud and ice can close or change the route even when Tenerife below is clear. Do not pass barriers or leave the signed path for a better crater photograph.

Save the permit and emergency number 112 offline. Confirm the road, cable-car check-in and return transport before selecting a summit slot; the permit’s two-hour window is only the access period, not a promise that the whole group will feel well at altitude. Recheck environmental notices and cable-car operation on the day.
