Victoria Falls: choose the side before you pack the poncho

Victoria Falls is a cross-border landscape with different visitor systems on the Zimbabwe and Zambia sides. Choose the side and the conditions#

The Zimbabwe-side trail has multiple viewpoints; official fees, opening arrangements and access rules differ from the Zambia side. Decide which national park or border crossing belongs in the day’s plan and check that authority’s current notice. A water-flow page is context, not a ticket or closure notice, and a clear view on one bank does not guarantee the same view across the river.

Spray can soak exposed walkways and hide the main curtain from some viewpoints. Carry waterproof protection for electronics, shoes with reliable grip and a dry layer for the return. Stay behind barriers, keep the trail clear and never descend toward the river for a closer photograph. Allow time for the whole viewpoint trail, border formalities if crossing and transport back. Recheck water level, park fees, opening hours and viewpoint status immediately before travel. Do not promise a fixed “best side”: the answer depends on season, flow, weather and the side that is legally open.
